Title: Driving While Texting

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits texting on a cellular phone or personal digital assistant while operating a motor vehicle.

-Prohibits using a cell phone or a personal digital assistant to send or receive a text message while operating a moving motor vehicle (Sec. 1). -Fines the offender $50 and raises the fee to $200 if the offender is involved in an accident (Sec. 1). -Allows an officer to stop motor vehicles in order to extend a verbal warning for the purpose of informing and educating beginning on January 1, 2010 and ending January 31, 2010, whereupon the bill becomes effective (Sec. 2).
