Vote to adopt a conference report that would amend the Texas Transportation Code to state that a driver would commit a misdemeanor if he or she allowed children under 17 years old to ride in a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt.
Highlights:
-Amends the current seatbelt law to include vehicles hired to provide non-emergency Medicaid transportation (Sec. 1). -Requires any passenger under 15 years old to wear a seat belt, regardless of which seat he or she is in (Sec. 2). -Requires motorcycle passengers to be at least 5 years old, unless traveling in a sidecar, and mandates a fine of between $100 and $200 for a violation of this section (Sec. 3).
