Title: Sales and Property Taxes

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that raises the sales tax by a penny to six cents per dollar and exempts the sales tax on unprepared food from the increase. The bill provides an additional exemption equal to 100 percent of the fair market value of owner-occupied residential property from the property tax imposed for all purposes except repayment of the general obligation debt. The bill specifies that a county can put to a referendum repealing the local sales tax. The bill also sets spending limits based on the annual increase in state personal income or consumer price index and requires all school districts receive at least 40 percent of "base student cost" from state funds.
