Title: Restricting Health Insurance Companies' Ability to Exclude Individuals.

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that limits the reasons for which health insurance companies can deny individuals coverage.

Highlights:
-Requires that all applications for individual health insurance policies have uniform questions and formats and are no longer than 10 pages (Sec. 1). -Requires the insurer, at the time of renewal and at the request of the individual, to either modify the benefits or deductible level, or both, or provide coverage using a different but comparable plan (Sec.5). -Prohibits health insurance companies from denying coverage to an individual one year after the start of a policy on the basis of a preexisting health condition (Sec. 6). -Prohibits health insurance companies from denying coverage to an individual 6 months after the start of a Medicare policy on the basis of a preexisting health condition (Sec. 8).
