Vote to pass a bill that requires businesses and state government agencies to pay a penalty for hiring and payment discrimination against women and minorities.

Highlights:
-Allows a person who was discriminated against to bring an action in circuit court against an employer or employment agency to recover damages caused by the violation (Sec. 2). -Requires defendant to pay to the person discriminated against compensatory and punitive damages determined by the court, and also pay the court a surcharge equal to 10 percent of the amount of compensatory and punitive damages ordered (Sec. 2). -Requires the county treasurer to turn collected surcharges over to the secretary of administration’s general fund where it be credited to an appropriation account (Sec. 2).
