Vote to pass a bill that prevents government employees from collecting pensions from public payroll in addition to full salaries or while earning credit toward a second pension.
Highlights:
-Stipulates that beginning July 1, 2010, if certain state employees and officials are employed again by the state within the next 6 months after retirement, the retirement will not be considered to have been a termination (Sec. 1).
-Requires that participation in the Florida Retirement System be compulsory for all officers and employees, except employees of public community colleges or charter technical career centers sponsored by public community colleges (Sec. 3).
-Prevents elected officials from re-enrolling in or collecting benefits from the Florida Retirement System while still holding elected office (Sec. 5).
-Prevents government employees from collecting a salary and retirement benefits from their employers for 12 months after retirement (Sec. 9).
-Makes specific exception for teachers and workers with specialized training in developmental research or teaching; these employees may return to public payroll on a non-contractual basis as hourly, substitute, or paraprofessional teachers one month after retiring (Sec. 9).
