Title: Warning Signs Regarding Mercury Levels in Fish
Vote to pass a bill that requires retail fish dealers to post warning signs in a conspicuous location where it is readily visible to consumers explaining the potential for high levels of mercury found in fresh and frozen fish beginning September 1, 2009.
- Requires the warning signs contain the following wording: "ATTENTION WOMEN CONSIDERING BECOMING PREGNANT, PREGNANT WOMEN, NURSING MOTHERS, AND PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN Some fish and shellfish, especially large fish such as shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish, may contain high levels of mercury that may harm the developing nervous system of a child. For more information about the risks of mercury in fish and shellfish call the Texas department of state health services' food information line toll-free at (insert toll-free telephone number)" (Sec 1). - This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock. - The following Representatives are not listed on the vote breakdown because their recorded votes do not accurately reflect their intentions:
