Title: Allowing a County Surcharge on the Transient Accommodations Tax

Vote to pass a bill that repeals the distribution of transient accommodation tax revenue to counties and authorizes counties to impose a surcharge of up to five percent on the transient accommodation tax beginning January 1, 2010.

Highlights:
-Specifies that if a county elects to impose the surcharge it shall take effect on January 1 of the following year, provided that it is at least 180 days following the date of adoption (Sec. 3). -Repeals the statute directing 44.8 percent of the transient accommodation tax revenue to counties from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2015, of which is distributed as follows (Sec. 2):
    -44.1 percent to Honolulu county; -22.8 percent to Maui County; -18.6 percent to Hawaii County; and -14.5 percent to Kauai County.
