Vote to adopt a conference report that prevents taxpayer funds going to illegal immigrants by imposing penalties on local governments that fail to verify citizenship status of its employees, contract workers and recipients of government assistance.

Highlights:
-Requires every public employer (including municipality and county) to register in the federal work authorization program so as to verify employment eligibility of all newly hired employees (Sec. 1). -Outlines penalties for local governments for failing to comply with Section 1 mandates (Sec. 2). -Local governments shall demonstrate compliance by taking all reasonably necessary steps to participate in the federal work authorization program, Systematic Alien Verification of Entitlement program or successor federal programs (Sec. 3). -Requires any agency or political subdivision that provides or administers a public benefit to require every applicant for such benefit to execute a signed and sworn affidavit verifying lawful presence (also describes affidavit) (Sec. 3).
