Title: Campaign Contribution Limits

Vote to pass a bill that establishes campaign contribution limits for individuals and political committees during both primary and general election cycles beginning November 3, 2010.

Highlights:

-Prohibits contributions in excess of $2,300 from an individual to a candidate running for nonstatewide office during both a primary and general election cycle respectively (Sec. 1). -Prohibits contributions in excess of $5,000 from an individual to a candidate running for statewide office during both a primary and general election cycle respectively (Sec. 1). -Prohibits contributions in excess of $5,000 from an individual to a political committee during both a primary and general election cycle respectively (Sec. 1). -Prohibits contributions in excess of $5,000 from a political committee to a candidate for office during both a primary and general election cycle respectively (Sec. 1). -Prohibits contributions in excess of $5,000 from a political committee to another political committee during both a primary and general election cycle respectively (Sec. 1). -Requires the above campaign donation limits to be increased after each general election by the percentage of the preceding two year's increase of the consumer price index for all urban consumers (Sec. 1). -Requires all contributions in excess of the contribution limits, as determined by the Secretary of State, to be deposited into the Public Election Fund (Sec. 1). -Specifies that the contribution limits do no apply to the candidate's own contributions using their personal funds to candidate's own campaign (Sec. 1). -This is a substitute bill sponsored by the Senate Committee on Rules.
