Vote to pass a bill that imposes a 3 percent tax on the rental of transient lodging in counties with a population of 300,000 or more.

Highlights:
-Specifies that the proceeds of the tax and any related penalties or interest must be credited to the state General Fund until July 1, 2011, at which time (and thereafter) it shall be credited to the State Supplemental School Support Fund to be used for the operation of school districts an charter schools in the state (Secs. 6 and 9). -Specifies that if the sum of all other state or local transient lodging tax rates in an area as of July 31, 2008 is greater than 10 percent but less than 13 percent, then the tax imposed by this petition shall be at a rate equal to the difference between 13 percent and the sum of the rates of existing taxes (Sec. 3). -Specifies that no tax shall be levied pursuant to this petition in an area in which the sum of the existing state or local tax rates on transient lodging is 13 percent or greater as of July 31, 2008 (Sec. 3).
