Title: Authorizing Four-Day School Weeks

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the school board of any school district to establish a 4 day school week by majority vote, provided that the board ensures that the school calendar fulfills a minimum of 142 days and 1,044 hours of pupil attendance, whereas a 5 day school week requires 174 days and the same number of hours of pupil attendance.
Highlights:
-Establishes a minimum of 4 hours in which students must be under the guidance and direction of teachers in the teaching process if the school district opts to have a 4 day school week, whereas a 5 day school week requires a minimum of 3 hours (Sec. A).
-Specifies that if a school district with a 4 day school week is required to make up school days canceled due to weather, the district is authorized to make up those days on Fridays (Sec. A).
-This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Committee on Elementary and Secondary Education.
