Vote to override a veto of a bill that restructures Port Authority oversight.
-Creates a board that oversees the activities of the Port authority (Sec. 1).
-Gives the Governor authority to remove and oversee this board (Sec. 1).
-Takes effect upon approval of the Governor (Sec. 23).
NOTE: A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY OF MEMBERS ELECTED IS REQUIRED TO OVERRIDE A GOVERNOR'S VETO.
Vote to pass a bill that amends provisions of existing law regarding the South Carolina State Ports Authority.
-Specifies that the Governor may only remove members of the board of directors of the State Ports Authority for the following reasons (Sec. 1):
-conflicts of interest;
-persistent neglect of duty in office;
-breach of duty.
-Reduces the terms of board of directors members from 7 years to 5 years (Sec. 1).
-Requires that each board member possess a background of at least 5 years in at least one of the following fields (Sec. 1):
-labor related to maritime shipping;
-finance, economics or statistics;
-specified business management positions.
