Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes two unrelated individuals of the same sex that are at least 18 years of age and neither of whom are currently a partner of another civil union or marriage to enter into a civil union beginning January 1, 2010, which ensures them the same rights, benefits, protections, and responsibilities granted to married couples.

Highlights:
-Authorizes individuals licensed to solemnize marriages to refuse to solemnize a civil union without facing fines or penalties (Sec. 2). -Prohibits individuals under the supervision of a guardian or conservator from entering into a civil union, unless the guardian or conservator provides written consent which must be signed and notarized (Sec. 2). -Specifies that civil unions entered into in other jurisdictions shall be recognized as a civil union in the state of Hawaii, provided that it meets all of the eligibility requirements established by this Act (Sec. 2).
