Vote to pass a bill that taxes moist snuff tobacco according to net weight beginning July 1, 2009, as opposed to the purchase price, as provided by existing law.

Highlights:

- Imposes a tax on the purchase and importation of moist snuff at the rate of sixty cents for any amount up to one ounce and a proportionate tax of the same rate for any fractional parts exceeding one ounce, as opposed to a tax at a rate of twenty percent of the wholesale purchase price, as provided by existing law (Sec. 1). - Imposes a tax on the use or storage of moist snuff at rate of sixty cents for any amount up to one ounce and a proportionate tax of the same rate for any fractional parts exceeding one ounce if the aforementioned tax on the purchase and importation has not been paid (Sec. 1). - Defines "moist snuff" as finely cut, ground, or powdered moist tobacco intended to be placed in the mouth, other than dry snuff (Sec. 1).
