Title: U.S.- Mexico Drug Trafficking Prevention Amendment
Vote to adopt an amendment calling on the U.S. and Mexican governments to take steps to strengthen their drug trafficking prevention efforts.
- Requires a Presidential report discussing progress made by the U.S. and Mexican governments on issues such as prosecution of corrupt Mexican officials, money laundering prevention policies, strengthening border control, termination of Mexican drug cartels, extradition of Mexican citizens wanted for U.S. drug crimes, and removing crops meant for drug use.
- Expresses the sense of Congress that efforts to combat the flow of narcotics from Mexico into the U.S. have been ineffective and insufficient.
- Mandates the deployment of 1,000 Immigration and Naturalization agents as required in the Fiscal Year 1997 Omnibus Spending Bill.
