Title: Prohibiting Children from Riding in Pickup Truck Beds

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the transportation of children under 16 years old in an open cargo area of a vehicle beginning October 1, 2008 and provides for exceptions.

Highlights:
-Allows for the transporting of children under 16 years old if an adult is present in the open cargo area of the vehicle, the child is secured by a seat belt, there is an emergency, the vehicle is operating in a parade, or the vehicle is operating in an agricultural enterprise (Sec. 1). -Penalizes violators with a maximum fine of $25 per infraction, regardless of the number of children riding in the open cargo area at the time of violation (Sec. 1).
