Title: Alcohol Tax Increase

Highlights:

-Increases the tax on alcohol to the following new amounts: $7.28 for each barrel of beer; $0.24 for each gallon of cider; $1.46 for each gallon of wine; $3.75 for each gallon of spirits containing 25 percent or less of ethyl alcohol; $5.63 for each gallon of spirits containing more than 25 percent ethyl alcohol; and $7.28 for each gallon of alcohol per gallon of ethyl alcohol contained, except for purchases made for scientific work, the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, or the manufacturing of non-beverage products (Sec. 1). -Specifies that this bill shall apply to all alcoholic liquor purchased and received from any manufacturer or importer on or after October 1, 2008 (Sec. 2).

NOTE: THIS LEGISLATION NEEDED A THREE-FIFTHS MAJORITY VOTE TO PASS.
