Title: Limitations on Direct File Juvenile Cases

Vote to pass a bill that would alter the conditions in which a juvenile can be charged as an adult.

Highlights:
For cases filed directly by the District Attorney: - Requires adjudication as a juvenile delinquency in cases when a juvenile defendant was convicted as an adult and received juvenile disposition (Sec. 1). - Allows juvenile defendants to petition for reverse-transfer of their case back to juvenile court from district court within 30 days of being charged (Sec. 2). - Requires the judge to treat defendants 15 years of age and younger as juveniles (Sec. 2). - Allows the judge to charge defendants 16 years of age and older as adults if the defendant has two or more juvenile convictions for acts that constitute felonies or probation revocations based on acts that constitute felonies (Sec. 2). - Requires that juvenile defendants be held in facilities intended for juvenile offenders, unless there is a substantial probability that defendants would endanger themselves or other residents of the facility; and if juvenile defendants are held at adult facilities, then they must be separated from contact, sight, and sound of adult offenders (Sec. 3).
