Vote to pass an amendment to a bill that would require school districts to incorporate age-appropriate sex education into their curricula by the start of 2011 for grades 7 through 12.

Highlights:

-Promotes an abstinence-first approach to sex education while also including information about contraception and disease prevention. -Allows parents to excuse their children from all or part of a sex education program. -Requires that the school district establish methods whereby parents would be able to inspect the audiovisual and written materials to be used in a sex education program. -Provides teachers, parents, administrators, and community members with training and technical assistance to develop a family life and sexuality education curriculum in accordance with National Health Education Standards. -Allows Department of Education to fund assistance for the implementation of family life and sexuality education programs in schools.
