Title: Renewable Energy Portfolio Exemptions

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that allows exemptions to the state's policy requiring energy providers to obtain a certain percentage of their power from renewable sources by specific deadlines.

Highlights:
- Allows the Michigan Public Service Committee to grant two one-year extensions if good cause is given for why the provider is unable to meet the original deadline [Sec. 15 (1)]. - Exemptions providers from compliance with energy portfolio standards if the estimated rate impact of compliance exceeds $3.00 per month per residential customer meter, $16.58 per month per commercial secondary customer meter, or $187.50 per month per commercial primary or industrial customer meter [Sec. 25 (1)]. - House Bill 5549 is tie-barred to HB 5383, HB 5524, HB 5525, HB 5548, and HB 5972-5977. Unless all are enacted, the bill will not take effect. - Substitute offered by Representative Palsrok.
