Vote to pass a bill that requires employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of employees.

Highlights:

- Prohibits employers from knowingly employing an undocumented immigrant. Violators may be fined up to $10,000 (Division IV). - Requires employers to verify the identity of new employees by examining either an Iowa identification card or a driver's license issued in Iowa or a nearby state. Requires the employer to make color copies of the identification document used and sign a form certifying that the employer has verified the employees identity (Division II). - Fines employers who fail to verify an employee's identity up to $1,250 for the first offense, up to $1,875 for the first offense, and up to $3,125 (Division II). - Requires individuals performing services for an employer to be classified as employees, subject to identity verification, unless they meet the specific criteria required for classification as an independent contractor (Division V). - Fines employers who falsely classify and employee as an independent contractor up to $1,250 for the first offense, up to $1,875 for the second offense, and up to $3,125 for the third offense (Division V). - Denies developmental assistance including training grants, tax credits, land price subsidies, and other public assistance to employers who chose not to participate in the federal employment eligibility program (Division VI). - Makes it an aggravated misdemeanor to make, obtain or posses false identification documents or to use false information to obtain identification documents (Division I). - Denies bail to undocumented immigrants and requires law enforcement to notify federal immigration and customs authorities when holding an undocumented immigrant (Division III). - Creates the Illegal Immigration Task Force to enforce immigration laws (Division VI).
