Title: Statewide Sales Tax Increase for School Infrastructure Funding
Vote to pass a bill that repeals the current local option 1% sales tax and increases statewide by 1%. The revenues from the statewide sales tax are distributed to public schools for infrastructure costs and repairs.
- Mandates that the remaining funds at the end of the year from the statewide sales tax be devoted to the relief of property taxes [Sec. 2(2)(b)]. - Repeals all local sales and services taxes used for school infrastructure costs and repairs [Sec. 28 (1)]. - Excluding sales and use tax on the lease of a motor vehicle, the necessary registration for a motor vehicle, and the issuance of a title for a motor vehicle [Sec. 12 (3)]. - Increases statewide sales and use tax from five percent to six percent [Sec. 4, 5 (1-5), 6, 7, 9].
