Title: Relaxing Predator Control Standards

Vote to pass a bill that relaxes the standards by which the Board of Game may authorize a predator control program that involves the aerial hunting of wolves, wolverines, or brown bears.
Highlights:
-Repeals the requirement that such a predator control program be part of a game management plan that requires the board to prove that the current predator population is either hindering the goals set by the board with respect to the population of big game prey, or carrying a disease or parasite that threatens the normal condition of the predator population or would spread to other populations (Sec. 8).
-Allows the board to authorize a predator control program if the board determines that the program would be beneficial in achieving objectives established for hunting purposes, the population size of moose, deer, or caribou, or the health of the predator population in a limited area (Sec. 8).
-Adds the brown bear to the list of species that can be hunted in such a predator control program (Sec. 8).
-Requires the board to identify and establish objectives for moose, caribou, and deer populations that are important for hunting purposes, and adopt regulations, including predator control programs, to achieve these objectives (Secs. 3-4).
-Establishes the effective date of this Act as July 1, 2008 (Sec. 14).
-This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Judiciary Committee.
