Title: Campaign Finance Restrictions

Vote to pass a bill that applies additional restrictions on campaign contributions to state legislators.

Highlights:

- Prohibits contributions to members of the state legislature both during and 15 days before or after a regular legislative session [sec. 2 (G)]. - Prohibits the use of contributions for personal use, and requires that they be used exclusively for campaign purposes [sec. 2 (H)]. - Requires all contributions and expenditures in excess of $50 to be reported, including the date, amount, and purpose of the expenditure [sec. 2 (I)]. - Prohibits contribution made to a political action committee from being transferred to another political action committee [sec. 2 (K)]. - Prohibits candidates from transferring campaign contributions to a campaign for another office [sec. 2 (J)]. - Allows contributions not used for campaign purposes to be [sec. 2 (H)]:

    - Deposited in the state General Fund; - Returned to contributors; - Given to a charitable organization; - Retained for a future election for the same office; - Used for legal proceedings arising from the campaign or official duties that are not criminal charges; - Transferred to a central committee of a political party; or - Any combination of these options.
- Makes a willful violation of the provisions of this Act a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, and/or one year imprisonment [sec. 2 (L)]. - This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Rules Committee.
