Vote to pass a bill that creates an employee funded insurance program to provide compensated time off to care for seriously ill family members and new family members.

Highlights:

- Sets employee contributions to the state fund at 0.09 percent of wages for the year 2009 and 0.12 percent of wages for the year 2010 and each subsequent year thereafter, unless covered by an approved private insurance plan [sec. 15 (d) (G) (ii)]. -Requires that employee contributions to a private program not exceed 0.5 percent of their wages [sec. 4 (e)]. - Limits compensation to the first 12 months after the child's birth or adoption [sec. 2 (o)]. - Limits the total benefits one may receive while on leave to the lesser of six times the individual's weekly benefit amount or one third of their total wages (Sec. 5). - Limits eligibility for benefits to six weeks or 42 days taken on an intermittent basis within a one year period [sec. 6 (b) (2)]. - Defines "Serious health condition" as an illness, injury, impairment or physical or mental condition that requires inpatient care in a hospital, hospice, or residential medical care facility, continuing medical treatment, or continuing supervision by a health care provider [sec. 2 (s)]. - This bill substituted S 786. - This is a substitute bill offered by the Assembly Labor Committee.
