Vote to pass a bill increasing the sales tax on tobacco products, and also subjecting certain commercial services to taxation.

Highlights:

- Increases cigarette tax by 25 cents on each 20 cigarettes (Sec. 4). - Adds snuff, cigarette paper, and any other consumable product that is used to smoke or otherwise consume any form of tobacco or any similar substance to the definition of “other tobacco products” [Sec. 16 (a)]. - Imposes a 6% tax on gross receipts from the following services: sewer, commercial janitorial, armored car, security, chartered air-flight, and commercial linen (Sec. 4). - Requires for taxation purposes that the average wholesale price of gasoline may not be set lower than 1.786 cents per gallon, but not more than 10% over “average wholesale price” at the close of the fiscal year [Sec. b(1)]. - Substitute offered by Appropriations and Revenue Committee on 3/4/2008.
