Vote to pass a bill that requires the State Board of Education to create a statewide core curriculum with the goal of preparing students for postsecondary education or professional employment.

Highlights:

- Requires core curriculum to include English, math, science, social studies and 21st century learning skills such as civics, health, technology and financial literacy and employment skills (Sec. 1). - Requires school districts to develop a plan with each student for progress toward university admissions or a career plan every year starting at grade 8 (Sec. 4). - Prohibits the State Board from requiring a certain text book or text book series to be used to meet the core curriculum requirements [Sec. 1 (b)]. - Extends the time line for implementing core curriculum standards from July 1, 2012 to July 1, 2014 (Amdt. 8474 to Amdt. 8432) - At the request of the Senate, the House receded from its amendments on 04/25/2008.
