Title: Uranium Cleanup Fund

Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Uranium Legacy Cleanup Fund which funds qualified projects aimed at eliminating or reducing the actual or potential exposure of individuals to uranium contamination that resulted from mining activity prior to July 1, 2008.
Highlights:
- Allocates money from the uranium legacy cleanup surtax, loans, and donations to establish the Uranium Legacy Cleanup Fund [sec. 3 (A)].
- Requires the Secretary of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources to approve qualified projects [sec. 4 (A)].
- Establishes the priorities for approving qualified projects, including the protection of public health and safety, protection of the environment, availability of funds, the number of people affected, and the level of actual or potential radiation exposure [sec. 4 (B)].
- Imposes the uranium legacy cleanup surtax on the mining and processing of uranium at a rate of $0.50 per pound of the content of U308 contained in the uranium [sec. 9 (A)].
- This is a substitute bill sponsored by the House Committee on Appropriations and Finance.
