Title: Scholarships for Drug-Free Students
Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Key to the Future Scholarship pilot program that awards students who meet or exceed specific academic criteria and remain drug, alcohol, and tobacco free with scholarships.
- Requires a student to remain alcohol, drug, and tobacco free for the entire calendar year, and for the duration of the student's high school years (Sec. 1). - Requires students to be in the eleventh grade on or after September 1, 2009 to be eligible for the scholarship (Sec. 1). - Establishes that a guilty plea or withheld judgment for any offense related to drugs, alcohol or tobacco be the same as failing a drug test for the purposes of this program (Sec. 1). - Establishes that any student who is convicted of, pleads guilty to, or receives a withheld judgment for any offense related to drugs, alcohol or tobacco during the student's postsecondary education years forfeit any future use of the scholarship (Sec. 1). - Allows students to reapply annually, but requires that they disclose if they have been convicted of, pled guilty to, or received a withheld judgment for any offense related to drugs, alcohol or tobacco in the past 12 months (Sec. 1). - Requires a school district to apply to the state board of education to be a selected district for the scholarship program (Sec. 1).
