Title: Linking Driving Privileges with Student Performance

Vote to pass a bill that bases the driving privileges of students between the ages of 15 and 18 on their school attendance and performance.

Highlights:

- Requires schools to issue Driver's Eligibility Certificates to students between the ages of 15 and 18 to be presented to the Division of Motor Vehicles to prove that the student:

    - Is enrolled and making satisfactory progress toward graduation - Does not have more than 10 consecutive or 15 total days of unexcused absences during the current and previous school semesters - Has not been suspended or expelled during the current and previous school semesters
- Requires the school to notify the Division of Motor Vehicles if a student stops being eligible for a Driver's Eligibility Certificate by violating one of the requirements. - Requires the Division of Motor Vehicles to suspended the license of any student who becomes ineligible. - Entitles students to a hearing before the appropriate school official to determine if the student's noncompliance was due to severe hardship. - Substitute offered by the House Committee on the Judiciary.
