Vote to pass a bill that expands the powers of local law enforcement to enforce immigration law and applies additional immigration restrictions.

Highlights:

- Requires the sheriff to make a reasonable effort to determine the citizenship of persons confined to a county jail for a felony or DUI, and to notify the U.S. Department of Homeland Security if citizenship cannot be determined (Sec 1). - Requires the attorney general to work with the U.S. Department of Justice or Homeland Security to allow and assist local law enforcement agencies with the enforcement of federal immigration and customs laws [sec. 9 (1)]. - Limits the issuance of identification cards to U.S. citizens, nationals, or legally permanent resident aliens, and allows for the issuance of temporary identification cards to legal refugees, asylum seekers or persons with pending legal status [sec. 5 (3-4)]. - Requires a state agency to verify the lawful presence of anyone at least 18 years old who has applied for state or federal benefits [sec. 7 (1)]. - Makes the transportation, concealment and harboring of an unlawful alien a class A misdemeanor.
