Title: Immigration Bill

Vote to pass a bill that would make it an offense for an employer to knowingly employ an undocumented immigrant.

Highlights:

- Applies only to employees hired after September 30, 2009 [Ch. 1.5, Sec. 1(a)]. - Provides that an employer who knowingly employs an undocumented immigrant may have his or her license suspended for not more than ten business days; that a second violation of this legislation within ten years of the initial violation may result in the employer having his or her license suspended for not more than ten business days; and that a third violation of this legislation within ten years of the initial violation may result in the employer having his or her license permanently revoked [Ch. 1.5, Secs. 16 (a)(2)), 18, 19]. - Provides that a court may take factors such as the number of immigrants employed, the duration of time for which the immigrant or immigrants were knowingly employed, the degree of harm caused by the violations, and any other factors the court considers relevant into consideration when deciding the severity of the sanctions imposed on the employer. [Ch. 1.5, Sec. 16 (a)(2)]. - Exempts an employer from prosecution under this law if the employer had verified the immigration status of the employee through the federal government's pilot program [Ch. 1.5, Sec. 23].
