Title: Cell Phone Driving Ban

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits the use of mobile telephones and electronic devices while driving a motor vehicle.

Highlights:
- Allows use of hands-free devices for anyone over 18 years old (sec. 5) - Exempts firefighters, rescue drivers, and state, county, or local officials while executing the duties of their profession (sec. 5). - Sets the punishments for adult drivers as follows (sec. 5): -$100 fine after first offense -$250 fine after second offense -$500 fine after third offense and subsequent offenses - Sets the punishments for drivers under the age of 18 as follows (sec. 2): - $100 fine and 60 day suspension of license/permit after first offense - $250 fine and 180 day suspension of license/permit after second offense - $500 fine and 1 year suspension of license/permit after third offense and subsequent offenses
