Title: Regional Transportation Authority Funding

Vote to pass a bill that funds the Regional Transportation Authority through the motor fuel tax.

Highlights:
- Redirects 80 percent of the revenue collected from the 6.25 percent tax on motor fuel in the six Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) counties (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will) to the Public Transportation Fund [sec. 4.09 (a)(2)]. - Allocates the revenue collected from the motor fuel tax as follows [sec. 4.03.3 (c)]:
    - $115 million to the Chicago Transit Authority. - $100 million to the RTA for deposit into the ADA Paratransit Fund. - $20 million to the RTA for deposit into the Suburban Community Mobility Fund. - $10 million to the RTA for deposit into the Innovation, Coordination, and Enhancement Fund. - Any remaining funds will be divided 48 percent to the Chicago Transit Authority, 39 percent to the Commuter Rail Division, and 13 percent to the Suburban Bus Division.
- Requires retailers of motor fuel in the six RTA counties to provide the Department of Revenue with a report containing the record of gross receipts received by that retailer from the sale of motor fuel during the last month or quarter, depending on the Department's requirements, and the amount of tax required to be paid on those sales (Sec. 3). - Penalizes retailers of motor fuel in the six RTA counties who fail to issue a timely and accurate report on the sales of motor fuel to the Department of Revenue $250 for the first violation, and $1,000 for each violation thereafter (Sec. 3-7.7). - Amendment No. 2 was offered by Rep. Julie Hamos and approved on 11/28/2007 which replaced the language of SB 307.
