Title: State Pension Fund Divestment from Sudan

Vote to pass a bill prohibiting state pensions and annuity funds from being invested in stocks, securities, companies, or corporations that do business in or with Sudan.

Highlights:

-Limits divestment to companies who have conducted business in or with Sudan within the last 20 months (Sec. 1). -Exempts social development companies, whose principle objective is providing humanitarian relief, from the divestment (Sec. 1). -Exempts companies who commit to discontinuing business practices forbade by this act within one year from the divestment (Sec. 1). -Requires a 50 percent withdrawal of assets invested in companies doing business in or with Sudan from the public fund within 6 months, and a 100 percent withdrawal within a year (Sec. 3). -Renders this act null after the U.S. abandons the sanctions it imposes on Sudan (Sec. 7). -House Ways and Means Committee substituted the text of H 4172 for S 2255.
