Title: 2007-2008 Department of Agriculture Budget

Vote to adopt a conference report that appropriates funds for the Department of Agriculture for fiscal year 2007-2008.

Highlights:

-$109.4 million in federal and state funds to the Department of Agriculture (Sec. 101). -$10.6 million for interdepartmental grants (Sec. 101). -Prohibits state departments and agencies from hiring any new full-time civil service employee or filling any vacant full-time civil service position. The state budget director is permitted to grant exceptions to the hiring freeze (Sec. 205). -Prohibits appropriated funds from being used for the purchase of foreign goods and services, provided that competitively priced and high quality goods and services can be provided by American businesses. Preference is also given to goods and services manufactured or provided by Michigan businesses (Sec. 209). -Limits the circumstances by which appropriated funds may be used for interstate travel (Sec 223).
