Title: Requiring Reports from the Defense Department to Congress Regarding Withdrawal from Iraq
Vote to urge the Department of Defense to perform comprehensive planning for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq and to require the Secretary of Defense to submit reports to Congress and meet with Congress regarding these withdrawal plans.
- Expresses the sense of Congress that the Department of Defense should perform "robust and comprehensive" planning for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq (Sec. 2).
- Requires the Secretary of Defense to submit a report about the plans for withdrawal within 60 days of the enactment of this bill, as well as every 90 days thereafter until U.S. forces in Iraq are no longer primarily engaged in a combat mission, and requires the Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other senior Defense Department officials to meet with Congress to discuss the reports (Sec. 3).
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
