Title: Extending Boxing Regulation to Mixed Martial Arts
Vote to pass a bill that legalizes amateur and professional mixed martial arts fights (Ultimate Fighting) in the state of Michigan and applies rules and regulations akin to those of Boxing.
- Requires that four of the members of the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission be licensees in boxing and four members be licensees in mixed martial arts. Three members shall be members of the general public [Sec. 20 (1)]. - Regulates contestants according to the standards established by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, such as weight classes, duration of round length, mandatory mouthpiece, and hand bandaging specifications [Sec. 22 (7)]. - Requires a licensed physician to observe the physical condition of the contestants and advise the referee or judges with regard to the health of those contestants [Sec. 57 (1)].
