Title: Presidential Primary Date Change

Vote to pass a bill that moves Michigan's presidential primary from February 26 to January 15.

Highlights:

-Allows state Party Chairpersons to change the date of, or cancel the primary election before September 15th of the year prior to that of the general election if all parties agree [Sec. 613a (2-3)]. -Requires a political party to have received at least 25 percent of the vote in the last presidential election in order to participate in the January 15th primary as opposed to the previous benchmark of 5 percent [Sec. 613a (4)]. -Requires each individual elector to declare which party's primary they intend to vote in [Sec. 615c (1)]. -Disallows political party's from using the elector party selection records, except for the purpose of supporting candidates and ballot measures endorsed by that party [Sec. 615c (7-11)]. -Requires the Secretary of State to determine the procedures by which absentee voters can select which primary they want to vote in, and ensure the confidentiality of their ballots cast [Sec. 759c (A-B)].
