Vote to pass a bill that requires food served in schools to meet certain nutrition standards.
Highlights:
- Requires that snack items must be sold in individual servings with less than 35% of the total calories from fat which cannot be over 150 calories for kindergarten through 5th grades, 180 for grades 6 through 8, and 200 for grades 9 through 12 [sec. 1(3)(a)].
- Requires that entrée items do not contain more than 450 calories and have no more than 4 grams of fat per 100 calories [sec. 1(3)(b)].
- Prohibits all beverages except water, 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice, milk and milk alternatives from being sold in schools with grades 8 and under, and adds low-calorie beverages to the allowed drinks for grades 9 through 12 [sec. 1(4)].
- Exempts food sold as part of the United States Department of Agricultures National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs from the restrictions [sec. 1(6)].
- Requires the standards to be implemented by the 2008-2009 school year [sec. 2(1)].

Highlights:
- Requires that snack items may only be sold in individual servings and must contain less than 35% of the total calories from fat, less than 10% of the total calories from saturated fat, less than 35% sugar by weight, and no trans fat [sec. 1(3)(a)].
- Requires that snack items do not exceed 150 calories in schools where the highest grade level is grade 5 or lower, 180 calories in schools where the highest grade level is grade 6-8, and 200 calories in schools grade 9-12 [sec. 1(3)(a)].
- Requires that entrée items sold individually do not contain more than 450 calories and have no more than 4 grams of fat per 100 calories [sec. 1(3)(b)].
- Prohibits all beverages except water, 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice, and milk from being sold in schools with grades 8 and under [sec. 1(4)(a-b)].
- Exempts food sold as part of the United States Department of Agricultures National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs [sec. 1(6)].
-Requires the standards relating to entrée and snack items prepared on-site and sold individually to be implemented by the 2009-2010 school year, with the standards for all other items implemented by the 2008-2009 school year [sec. 2(1-2)].
