Vote to pass a bill that allows a patient to choose a health care agent who serves as the next of kin with respect to visitation and health care decisions. If the patient is unable to make decisions, a domestic partner may be designated as the patient’s health care agent.

Highlights:
- Defines Domestic Partner as an adult who has entered into a committed interdependent relationship with another adult where the partners: are responsible for each other’s basic welfare, share a common residence, are not related by blood or adoption to an extent that would prohibit marriage, and are legally competent and qualified to enter into a contract [sec. 1(d)].
