Title: Children’s Health Care Eligibility

Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill lowering the maximum income level for eligibility under the PeachCare for Kids Program, requiring optional dental and vision coverage, and making other changes.

Highlights:
-Reduces statutory income threshold for eligibility for PeachCare from 235% to 200% of the federal poverty level (Sec. 1). -Requires the PeachCare for Kids Program to offer "substantially the same health care services available to dependent children under the state employees' health insurance plan…" rather than offering substantially the same health care services available under the state's Medicaid program (Sec. 1). -Grants the Board of Community Health authority to change the income threshold for eligibility to between 185% and 225% (Sec. 1). -Allows children in families that currently qualify for PeachCare but do not under this bill may remain enrolled, subject to the requirements that were in place before this bill (Sec. 1). -Requires Department of Community Health to contract with the Department of Administrative Services or another appropriate outside entity for verification of eligibility, particularly to confirm US citizenship and income level (Sec. 1). -Requires the department to provide optional vision and dental coverage for an additional premium (Sec. 1).
