Vote to pass a bill to extend certain rights and benefits of married couples to same-sex couples and unmarried couples over the age of 62.
- Sets requirements for a state-registered domestic partnership, including sharing a common residence, being over the age of 18 and not married or in another domestic partnership, not being nearer of kin to each other than second cousins, and either having both partners of the same sex, or at least one person over the age of sixty-two (sec.4). - Establishes the rights of a domestic partner as being the same as a spouse with respect to visitation in a health care facility (sec.8). - Authorizes a domestic partner to consent for health care on behalf of a patient who is not competent (sec.11.1). - Grants inheritance rights to domestic partners, if the deceased is without a will (sec.27.1).
