Legislation - Motion Rejected (Senate) (50-48) - Nov. 17, 2005 (Key vote)
Title: Temporary Tax on Crude Oil Amendment
Vote on a motion to waive the Budget Act in order to adopt an amendment that establishes a Low-Income Energy Assistance Trust Fund to receive proceeds from a windfall profit tax imposed on crude oil companies that produce 500,000 barrels per year (a windfall profit is when a business earns unusually high profits due to some event not controlled by that business).
NOTE: A MOTION TO WAIVE THE BUDGET ACT, IF ADOPTED, TEMPORARILY SETS ASIDE A SPECIFIC PROVISION OF THE BUDGET ACT OF 1974 SO THAT AN AMENDMENT THAT VIOLATES THE ACT MAY BE CONSIDERED. A 3/5 MAJORITY IS REQUIRED FOR ADOPTION.
Legislation - Introduced (Senate) - Nov. 17, 2005
