Title: Pay As You Go Amendment
Vote on a motion to waive the Budget Act in order to adopt an amendment that prohibits the Senate from considering any direct spending or revenue legislation that increases the on-budget deficit in any bills during specified time periods.
- Permits the rule to be waived by an aftermath vote of three-fifths of the Senate.
- Expires in 2010.
NOTE: A MOTION TO WAIVE THE BUDGET ACT, IF ADOPTED, TEMPORARILY SETS ASIDE A SPECIFIC PROVISION OF THE BUDGET ACT OF 1974 SO THAT AN AMENDMENT THAT VIOLATES THE ACT MAY BE CONSIDERED. A 3/5 MAJORITY IS REQUIRED FOR ADOPTION.
