Amendment - Amendment Not Tabled (Senate) (46-51) - Feb. 27, 2002 (Key vote)
Title: Allowing Signatures for Voter Registration by Mail
Vote to table an amendment that would have changed what individuals who register by mail are required to provide in order to prove their identity.
The original language of the bill required individuals who registered by mail to show photo identification or proof of residence before they were allowed to vote. Amendment 2937 would have allowed individuals who register to vote by mail to use a signature or personal mark to verify their identity.
NOTE: A SENATOR MAY MOVE TO TABLE ANY PENDING LEGISLATION, THUS HALTING FURTHER CONSIDERATION. A "YEA" VOTE IS IN SUPPORT OF HALTING FURTHER CONSIDERATION, AND A "NAY" VOTE IS IN SUPPORT OF FURTHER CONSIDERATION. TABLING MOTIONS ARE OFTEN USED TO KILL LEGISLATION.
