Title: Appalachian Regional Development Act Amendments of 2006
Vote to pass a bill that appropriates $510.9 million over five years through 2011 to the Appalachian Regional Commission for grants to fund administrative expenses of development plans for counties with economical difficulties.
- Specifies that grants under this bill shall not be made to a for profit organization, except those organizations that meet specific percentage requirements (Sec. 2).
- Allows grants that cover up to 80 percent of the cost of projects in "distressed communities," and 70 percent in "at-risk counties" (Sec. 2)
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
