Title: Better Health Information Systems Act of 2006
Vote to pass a bill that amends the Public Health Service Act to establish a National Coordinator to implement a nationwide plan that organizes and manages federal government activities relating to health information technology for both private and public sectors.
- Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to report a plan to Congress on how to create national standards for confidentiality of patient health information (Sec. 102).
- Launches procedures to ensure timely updating of standards that enable electronic exchanges (Sec. 201).
- Requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to provide notice of new standards for transactions set by the Accredited Standards Committee and the National Council for Prescription Drugs Programs beginning on April 1, 2009 (Sec. 202).
