Title: Undocumented Immigrant Emergency Medical Assistance
Vote Smart's Synopsis:
Vote to pass a bill that would require hospitals to provide information on undocumented immigrants seeking emergency medical care.
Prohibits federal reimbursement of funds to hospitals that provide emergency services to undocumented immigrants unless the hospital provides the Secretary of Homeland Security with citizenship and employment records (Sec. 3).
Makes employers of certain undocumented immigrants financially responsible for the medical treatment of these immigrants (Sec. 3).
Allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to remove undocumented immigrants under Federal immigration law (Sec. 3).
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
